There is something beautiful and simple about a book- whether it is a special volume given to you upon achieving a life milestone, a cherished children’s book, a favorite well-worn cookbook, a secret journal of writings or drawings, the beloved family or personal bible…
I have worked in book conservation for Chicago cultural institutions for nearly 25 years, including Northwestern University Library, Chicago Public Library, and the Newberry Library. During this time, I also taught numerous classes in the book arts and book conservation. In my free time, I picked up gardening— planting and harvesting mostly vegetables in a small urban space. Living in the city for so long, gardening was a way to both connect to the earth and also a way to connect to my upbringing. My parents and grandparents all had gardens, grew their own food, and preserved harvests by canning. I pursued a certificate in urban farming with the goal of helping others learn how to grow at least some of their food. In 2022, I decided it was time for me to leave the library world in pursuit of my next chapter - one where I can focus on building my own bookbinding and conservation business and spending more time tending my farm and garden.
I enjoy breathing new life into clients’ cherished books through conservation and repair, creating protective boxes to keep them safe, and working with clients to help them preserve their family heirlooms for future generations.
I look forward to working with you!
